Richard Davidson

Formerly a City Lawyer, Richard Davidson is a wonderfully talented and accomplished painter. He studied at Wimbledon School of Art where he gained a First Class Degree in Fine Art.

Over the last decade he has exhibited at many prestigious galleries in London and across the South of England including the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy, London.

"I paint images of recognisable objects (often items of clothing) on isolated, unadorned grounds. Many of the images with which I work recall my prior career as a solicitor in the City – formal, polished shoes; ties; shirts and suits. There is an element of reflective nostalgia. They are painted with a sense of affection whilst, at the same time, they are designed to bring into play for the viewer issues such as loss of identity, uniformity (and clothes as uniform) and containment.

I hope, however, that each viewer will bring their own associations with them when viewing these images of ordinary items."

Surface is thrilled to show this latest collection of still life pieces - everyday objects, all beautifully painted.
