Jasmine Leonard

The artist invites the viewer to experience their own private paradise. 'Like a package holiday, botanical gardens hold no danger'.  By painting images of palm trees out of their natural habitat, Jasmine highlights the artificiality of our experiences.  Sadly even uninhabited lands have been tamed by man 'The only remaining wilderness exists in the mind'. Botanical images are a strong theme throughout her work. Her new series, to be revealed in September, will feature local gardens and parks as well as other found imagery.
The process: Jasmine creates an under-drawing by masking out the shapes on a fluorescent ground.  Then layers of spray paint and oil paint are built up to create a sense of perspectival depth. Small stencils are used within each layer to add detail. Finally a solvent solution allows her to erase where necessary and create glowing edges.
